These paintings exist in opposition to the instagram cultural phenomena of “food pics” and their ideological equivalents.

Instead of shallowly curated facades of perfectly sized portions, these images depict an honesty in foods of various levels of consumption and dilapidation. Forgoing the ostentatious for the sincerity of imperfection and impermanence. 

The deconstruction of the subject matter is further expressed in the treatment of paint, where the painting process, in various stages, is revealed.

This approach has to be almost surgical in its precision so as to function with the levels of visual interest and compositional integrity we have come to expect from the best of two dimensional works of art. These paintings play with pictorial space, color and composition in a way reminiscent of Cezanne, but with a more contemporary punk rock attitude.
