These paintings exist in opposition to the instagram cultural phenomena of “food pics” and their ideological equivalents.

In stead of shallowly curated facades of perfectly sized portions, these images depict the honesty of foods in various levels of consumption and delapidation. Forgoing the ostentatious for the sincerity of imperfection and impermanence. 

The deconstruction of the subject matter is expressed also (further expressed?) in the treatment of paint, where the painting process, in various stages, is revealed.

This method has to be almost surgical in its precision so as to function with the levels of visual interest and compositional integrity we have come to expect from the best of two dimensional works of art. When successful, these works are able to play with the pictorial space, color and composition in a way reminiscent of Cezanne, but with a more contemporary punk rock attitude.
